How to apply makeup to feel confident in your makeup application and in yourself!

I get it, makeup application can be so overwhelming! With all the products and steps, how do you know which is the right way to apply your makeup to perfection?

Today’s blog post will take you step by step in how to apply makeup so you can feel more confident and look younger, too!

how to apply makeup www.briannamichellebeauty.com

Start with skincare.

Your makeup will only looks as good as how well you take care of your skin. If your unsure with what to do, refer to our skincare guide or better check out these CBD beauty products here.

Prime to Shine.

Yes, after completing skin prep, you will want to use a all over face primer and a separate eye primer to smooth out the skins imperfections and discoloring to have perfectly even and radiant skin.

Start with Brows.

If your not shaping your brows, I recommend starting now. Brows are the frames of your eyes and by filling in and shaping your brows with eye product your eyes will appear more large and more visible. Brow filling also instantly makes you look younger by giving you a lift to your face.

Make Your Eyes Pop.

Its best to start with the eyes first, that way if you have any eyeshadow fall out you can clean it up before you apply foundation. If your unsure with how to apply your eyeshadow, follow my eyeshadow guide here.

Apply Foundation and Concealer.

Now you can finally apply your foundation. I prefer using a foundation brush for best makeup results. When covering discoloration under the eye, I apply my foundation all the way up to the bottom lash line. Then, I go over with concealer. Therefore, the area is layered with both foundation and concealer.

Highlighting and Contouring.

Another step that instantly can make you look younger! By using a sculpting powder, blush and a highlight powder together, you will create a gorgeous look that will no only accent your cheekbone, but give you a lift to your face.

Smile Bright.

Most women are afraid of wearing brighter shades of lip color. However, but opting to a more pop of color, that stands against your skin, will brighten your skin, look, smile and give you a more youthful appearance. Pros and Cons for Lash Extensions

Should you get a classic eyelash extension for your wedding? One of the number one questions I get asked most! Here is a brief explanation of what eyelash extensions or Lash Fills really are, and their pros and cons to see if they are right for you!

WHAT ARE THEY?

Lash extensions are small lashes that get placed on your natural lash. They are placed by hand with a semi permanent glue to last 3-4 weeks. There are several different kind of lashes with various size, length and volume that create different looks based on your personal preference. The process takes about 2.5 hours for a full set.

To keep your lashes full, it is recommended to have fills done about every three weeks. Fills table about 1 hour.

lash extensions

PROS:

They save so much time getting ready. You wake up every morning with eyes already done and you can just trow on a little concealer, gloss and go. They are wonderful for having on your honeymoon with minimal getting ready work, especially if your heading to a beach destination. Lash extensions create a more youthful appearance. You always look great in your photos! They make you feel beautiful and glamorous every day. They:

-Adds volume and fullness to your natural lashes

-Adds depth to your face

-Enhances your eyes

-Lifts your natural eyes and opens them up

-Creates a more youthful appearance.

CONS:

-Expensive. They can be pricey and you do need to be ready to make the commitment of going every three weeks for natural fills. A full set should fun you $150-$225 for a licensed professional and refills are typically $60-$80 every three weeks.

-Lashes take a long time to fill and refill

-You have to be responsible with your lashes and care for them. It is recommended you for not apply mascara on the them, or wear gel, pencil, or liquid eyeliner on the top only. You can, however, use eyeshadow as eyeliner.

-Lash damage. If you dont go to someone experienced and good, you can damage your natural lashes. Do your research.

Keep in mind, you are stuck with the same lash look for as long as you have the extensions. Meaning if your wanting longer lashes for your wedding day, you will need to get the lash extensions exactly how you would want them on wedding day.

TIP:

If your looking to get them done for your wedding, I recommend getting them done a few months before so you can make sure your happy with the look and don’t have a reaction to the glue or the lashes. It will take some getting used to. Don’t be surprised when getting them done you feel it’s too much. This is a normal feeling. I recommend taking a photo of yourself, after you get them done. If you like how they look in the photo, your good!

In my personal opinion, I have lash extensions and I love them! I had them for my wedding and for me- it was the best decision ever!

Bridal Hair Tips

Bridal hair tips and preparation are just as important as skin prep for the big day and are SO CRITICAL, especially if your wanting a more dramatic bridal hair look! Also have a look at this breast firming cream for enhancement as it’s just incredible.

You probably don’t think there is a lot in that goes into bridal hair styling, but the truth is……….

las vegas bridal hair tips

If your wanting a  hair look that is a little more dramatic, with hair extensions, there are some bridal hair tips and steps from this beauty school you have to do on your end before meeting with your artist.

las vegas bridal hair tips

  1. Make sure your using good hair products. Using certain drugstore brands can strip the hair and can cause damage and breakage which can pop through when professionally styling. Even leave in conditioners are not recommended as they can also create a film on the hair and can cause build up leaving the hair limp and lifeless. Pantene is not a good hair product. Get salon products such as Bumble and Bumble, Paul Mitchell and Joico, etc and if your hair is colored, make sure you using the “color treated” formula.
  2. If your wanting to grow out your hair, its recommended getting a baby trim every 8 weeks to keep the hair strong. Yes, you hair will still grow and get long getting it trimmed. You never want to go long periods of time without getting your hair cut as this can cause spit ends and damage looking hair. Make sure to only use
  3. If your hair is not the right length or thickness for the desired style, be honest and talk with your artist about other hair options in creating the dream bridal hair look you want. Clip in real hair extensions and pieces can be placed in creating your dream look. Its always best to have these BEFORE your trial session.
  4. If you are in a hair salon and you are using salon equipment such as a clip in hand tied extensions, it is recommended to get them trimmed and cut from your hair stylist so they match the length and layers of your real hair, before the trial, as well as dirty them up a bit. I recommend washing them and laying them flat on a towel to dry so they are not stick straight when coming out of the packaging.
  5. OLEPLEX. One important word! Its a life changer when it comes to your hair. I recommend getting this conditioning treatment a week or so before wedding day to deep condition your hair and make sure its healthy and ready to look glamorous on your big day!
  6. BOOK A TRIAL and be honest and upfront about your hair’s texture, condition with your artist. With the transparency of the business, we are not able to feel or touch the hair until we actually see you. If your hair is thick, we need to know for timing purposes. If your hair is naturally curly, and you want it to look straight- ask us. Don’t come with your flat ironed because flat ironing the hair can also cause the hair to not take curl well as any heat to the hair seals the hair folicle. Again, no question is a dumb questions and communication is always the key to achieving your dream bridal hair look.

My Wedding Is In 12 Days

My wedding is in 12 days, and I’ll be Mrs. Young and I am just bursting at the seams with joy, but man I don’t know where I am coming or going. It’s been non stop the last week with finalizing the wedding timeline, and everything with our vendors, etc and running Brianna Michelle Beauty. Talk about wedding brain!!!! It’s more like I have no brain- LOL However, I am SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!

Sometimes  you always know and I always knew I would feel this sense of satisfaction, and love fulfillment when I got married. Planning a wedding changes you and getting married changes you. It is something that is hard to describe, but you just change and I cant describe it, but it is like all of a sudden you feel the most loved, beautiful, wholeness that ever is. Perhaps it is like when you become a mom for the first time or how my mom friends are always explaining to me- well thats how I feel and I cant wait to share all the personal growth I have developed in myself since I have been on this journey to married life with my big girl pants on now! 🙂 I can hardly wait for the wedding! I am ready to become a wife and the queen of my castle!

So I am sharing with you a few things that I discovered to be prepared for during the last 2 weeks of your wedding day. Hope you find them helpful and if there is something I missed, please share below in the comments section!

THINGS DO GET HECTIC- BE PREPARED.

I got almost all my planning done by the end of April and things finalized. Literally everything down to the bridesmaids gifts, wedding favors and cake topper. This gave me some room my last few weeks for any upcoming incidentals, reconfirming with all my vendors, or things I wasn’t expecting to incur such as people not rsvp-ing on time, hunting them down and making sure my venue had all the items on the menu that we agreed some months ago during our tasting.

Yes, double check with all your vendors. There were a few items we had on the menu we selected months ago, that our venue contact said they were not carrying on the menu anymore, but luckily they were able to accommodate us so nicely. Price we paid for choosing a great venue and not the cheapest one on the list. You do get what you pay for. You can check out services like Dallas wedding venues to check out what suits your budget.

TIMELINE

I am still struggling to get this done and hope to have it done this week. Plan for at least 3 days so you don’t go crazy and work on it a little each day, if your doing it on your own and not hiring a coordinator.

I started with hair and makeup getting ready in the morning at 9am all the way down to the 11pm sparkler send off! Don’t forget to add on your timeline when your are signing the marriage license. Most do it right after the ceremony in the back room somewhere nearby.

DON’T FORGET YOUR TRIAL

Even if your a destination bride and flying in a day or two before, schedule a trial the day before. I actually had my hair trial months ago, and thank God I did. While the hairstylist did exactly what I asked for and was terrific, I didn’t like the look on myself and opted for something else. I was able to have a few trials here in Vegas with my own team, so she will be able to duplicate on the day of. I am doing my own makeup- everyone asks! :))

MAKE NOTE OF SPECIAL PHOTOS

If your like me and have this vision of how you want your photos to turn out and what shots are physically in your mind, I recommend taking some sample screen shots of some looks and not only sending them to your photographer via Pinterest, but writing them down on the timeline, so that as you go through it your Coordinator or Maid of Honor can make sure those shots are getting done. For example, if there’s certain shots you want with specific family members or the bride and groom shot with the brides veil over them or the fabulous and most popular sparkler send off shot add them to the wedding timeline!

PREPARE FOR GRATUITY

While most vendors include gratuity in their wedding contracts, it’s always appreciated to ask the venue or vendor if gratuity is included.  I have personally set aside cash gratuity in envelopes for all my vendors.

DELEGATE

It’s okay to allow people to help you! Your not expected to do everything on your own. Have a few people aside to be your “Gofers” so that they can help things go a bit more smooth on wedding day. I have set aside my bridesmaids and in additional another close friend.

IN ADDITION….

Last but not least, if you are generally not an organized person, HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER! Add it into your budget before booking anyone. I run a business, and I am extremely organized and this was ALOT for me. While we almost eloped I am so happy we are doing it the way I always dreamed of, even though it was so expensive. I can look back and feel good about the way we planned everything and became a MRS.!!!!!

Did I miss anything? Have a helpful tip to share leading to the countdown of the last 2 wedding weeks? Comment below your suggestions and helpful tips!

Why I Chose A Second Wedding Dress

It’s been quite the journey shopping for a wedding dress!  I wanted to share a little bit of my wedding planning experience and a bit of this journey with you because I felt is was SO important to get a different perspective and take on it all. Being on the other side of the wedding business, has certainly been a huge eye opener and I hope this brings some clarity to perhaps another bride who is on the fence about her wedding dress or just taking the plunge into investing into the entire wedding experience! We recommend checking out Teddy Moutinho latest interview on this website for more information.

Most people are not happy with that. You can accelerate your weight loss per week by increasing exercise or decreasing caloric intake. If you need to lose 30 lbs., think smart and start 6 months before your wedding, According to this Meticore review, if you combine your workout with this supplement the results will definitely show off. I love my mornings routines with my Joy ON, it’s a Kegel exerciser that help you build stronger and tighter vaginal muscles for improved bladder control, easier labor, faster childbirth recovery and sexual satisfaction.

My fiancee’ and I were so close to eloping, but I am so glad that we ended up having the traditional wedding pulling out all the bells and whistles and experiencing every last detail of the planning process. I knew going into it first hand that my dress was going to be a big deal because I am super picky to how things fit me. I have a true hourglass shape and most clothing always has to be altered or taken in at the waist. If you are still not sure what style to choose take a look at this Thredup rescue box full of fashionable clothing.

Wedding Dress

With a mutual decision on a comfortable budget, I ventured out to find the perfect dress the week I got engaged- BIG MISTAKE. Well, I found a dress. It was gorgeous!!! I had a little teary-eyed moment and thought it was the ONE. It fit me perfectly and had a stunning corset back which cinched my waist perfectly and I truly felt beautiful and perfect. The best thing that I was excited about was the dress fell within my budget and I even got $100 off for mentioning them on facebook.

Fast forward several a month later, after choosing our venue, I realized the dress just didnt match or go and was missing some intimate details and after re-looking at more wedding dresses out there, I realized my dress was NOT THE ONE and my vision had totally changed. It was a gorgeous dress, but didnt feel the mood and light and could not imagine me in the dress in the venue with the flowers, etc. that we had chosen.

My mom thought perhaps when I had the dress altered, I would have a change of tune, but after getting it hemmed and busseled, I still felt something was missing, so I began to search for a second dress thinking how CRAZY I must be! If you’re searching for a dress that would make you look breathtaking for an important occasion, you can try outfits like that moverse butik.

In March, my mom, fiancee and I flew up to Chicago to look at our venue, meet with our florist and a few other vendors. Killing some time, my mom and I walked into the bridal shop and low and behold- I found MY DRESS! My mom and I had our moment and it felt SO RIGHT! Mira Couture was probably the best bridal experience in wedding dress shopping and TRUST ME, I went to many in Vegas and back home in Louisville and none gave as great customer service than Mira Couture. in Chicago. They were able to alter it right then and there for me-  all but the front hem because I did not have my shoes with me.

wedding dress
Wedding Dress by Pronovias. Photo provided by Mira Couture. (not my dress)

The moral of this story, is wait until you choose your venue and flowers before going dress shopping and DO NOT SKIMP AND GO CHEAP when it comes to the way you look. Take your time. For the amount of money that I have spent on both dresses and alterations, I could have had a wow dress. Trust me my new dress is beautiful, but just DO IT! You wont regret feeling extra beautiful and confident on the most important day of your life! I try my new dress on just about every week and get so excited! I never felt I could feel so beautiful in one wedding dress! The confidence that I feel in this dress, I know will show through in our photos and it will be picture perfect! I know it would look even more gorgeous because it matches the luxurious but minimalist look of these titanium wedding rings for sale.

It was crazy to think that it took me 7 months to find a dress and I got my dress 4 months before my wedding day, but when it feels right it just happens. Kind of like love.

Hope this helps someone with a decision they are making when it comes to the way they look and feel! Did anyone have a similar experience? How long did it take you to find a wedding dress?

Wedding Makeup Artist Pro Tips

Prepping for your wedding day can feel overwhelming! Here are some wedding makeup artist pro tips in making sure your look is perfect on the big day!

Treat Your Skin

Your wedding makeup will only look as well as you take care of your skin. Therefore being on a regular skincare routine, at least 4-6 weeks before the wedding is necessary in having beautiful smooth skin. I, personally, like to provide a custom tailored skin care routine to all my clients based on the current condition of their skin. You should at least be cleansing, exfoliating, using a serum, eye cream and moisturizer. Exfoliators, Serums and Eye Creams should NOT be purchased from your local drugstore as the ingredients have too many harsh chemical agents that tend to do more harm than good.

Book A Trial

Even if you are a destination bride, you should ALWAYS book a trial, for your wedding makeup, even if its the day before. Trials should consist of a full regular hair and makeup session and should at least be 2 hours for a successful trial with optimal results. Sometimes, even more time is needed. I would hesitate with any wedding makeup artist saying their trial is less than that time frame because you need to be able to spend time with the artist and get to know your wants, desires and best suitable option for wedding makeup. Its like saying “Yes to the Dress” but saying “Yes to the Makeup!”

Consider Your Dress

Your wedding makeup should match your dress. Not literally, of course, but the formality of it. If you dress is more light and boho, then the makeup should reflect that a bit so it all goes together for one beautiful shot. If your dress is super dramatic with lots of bling, the makeup, or course can be a more dramatic look.

Have More Than One Wedding Makeup Look

By having more than one option for your wedding makeup will give you more to work with. Sometimes, what you imagined for your look, doesn’t always translate well on you! Thats where we come in to help make subtle changes so the look translates well on you! By choosing a professional wedding makeup artist, the artist should be able to look at your inspiration photos and help determine what you like about each photo to customize and translate it well  for your personal face shape and needs. That is why its always important to go with someone who is experienced.

Consider Your Florals

Your floral colors can sometimes set the makeup look for the big day! You want the colors of your look to compliment the floral arrangements, as well as, your wedding bouquet. It all has a trickle effect, in creating the perfect look. My advice is choose the makeup inspiration photos after you have determined your wedding colors. Your wedding makeup artist will help you in customizing the perfect look. This will help everything flow together nicely for the perfect wedding day!

Bridal Makeup Tips for Fair Skin

Bridal makeup for fair skin can be tricky especially if your not wanting to look too pasty on your wedding day. Here are a few bridal makeup tips that will keep you from not looking pasty, and makeup recommendations match that porcelain skin allowing you to embrace your fair beauty.

Scuplting Powders

For those who don’t know what sculpting powder is, it is a powder that allows you to contour and shade your face. It is different from a bronzer in the sense that sculpting powders have a grey undertone. The grey undertone helps you to be able to shade the face in a subtle way without looking discolored. I prefer the MAC sculpting powders available online only or in the pro-store in Sculpt or Bone Beige. Just make sure you have the compact or insert, as they come in pan size only.

Eyeshadows

Especially with bridal makeup, the more fair the better when choosing eyeshadow colors for your wedding day. When choosing colors for more fair skin, the lighter the better. Think light, matte, soft, and airy. I like to go with matte latte shades, soft pinks and light pale peaches, with a light champagne shimmer.

Lip Shades

Opt for nudes or pale pinky nudes. It will look pretty nude in the tube, but remember this has to blend in with your lips natural lip color, so if your lips naturally have a lot of color to them already, remember for bridal makeup, stick with the lightest hue. Lipsense shade, Praline Rose, is a perfect bridal makeup lip color that looks great on fair skin. Lipsense is a 16 hour weear kiss proof color that does not dry out the lips.

Foundations

Here is my biggest question in regards to bridal makeup! Whats the best foundations for fair, pale skin. There are several brands that offer a larger range of hues. I prefer Make Up For Ever HD liquid foundation, Dior Forever foundation in 10, or Temptu #1 shade is great for airbrushing options. It won’t damage your skin and you can find great ingredients to improve with the best upcycled skincare routine.

At the end of the day, its always best to leave your bridal makeup to a professional and allow them to find your perfect color match. However, hopefully these few bridal makeup tips will help you in choosing some shades on your own for everyday wear.

What Is Primer and Why Is It Important

What is primer?….. it’s a question I get asked ALL the time and the truth is you shouldn’t even be wearing a makeup foundation unless you are using a primer! Yep! I said it! Don’t waste your time! Its like walking out of the house without wearing underwear- but worse…and that is why most people hate foundation because they aren’t using a primer to correct the skin, in the first place or they arent on a proper skin care routine- its NEVER the foundation.

what is primer

There are SO MANY primers out there- mostly due to marketing gimmicks, but today I am going to help you understand what is primer so that you can see for yourself primer is AMAZING and it’s a total game changer when perfecting your makeup look.

In one sentence, Primer is a foundation product to wear under your foundation to correct or enhance the skin, thus allowing foundation to be long lasting, smooth, radiant, matte or whatever look your trying to achieve.

With marketing as aggressive as it is out there, we have primers for rosacea, primers for dull skin, oily skin, primer to help reduce pores.  It’s overwhelming, but the most important question you have to do is ask yourself….what am I trying to achieve with a primer? What do I want to correct in my skin?

what is primer

Here is my SECRET LIST of primers that I use on all my clients based on their skin condition and concern. Tried and True Products!

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Mattifying Primer- Oily Skin, or the other ones for Radiant and Smoothing

Hourglass Veil Primer- Radiant Skin

Smashbox Primer- All Skin types to Create Smoothness

Pore Professional- To Rid of Large Pores

Dior Primer- For more mature skin (women over 50) In addition to creating smoothness, Dior’s primer contains additional anti aging skin care ingredients.

what is primer

But wait!!!! What about the green, yellow and purple and orange primers I see out there? Those are more corrective primers that correct the skin’s actual discoloring and should only be used to change the skin’s coloring and should be advised from a professional makeup artist if this is your particular challenge.

Again, primers are a game changer in polishing and perfecting your makeup look! It’s important to always think about adding this type of foundation element to any makeup routine for best and optimal results!

Start With The Dress

Yep! Its nearly impossible to create a custom bridal makeup look without knowing what your dress will look like. Your wedding dress sets the tone and the mood for your overall look and feel. Ask yourself…..is my dress elegant, bohemian, more sophisticated… This will help determine the look, mood and feel that will help set the tone.

Start A Pinterest Board

I always recommend to my brides to start a pinterest board and pinning different bridal makeup looks that you like. This is so helpful for your makeup artist. Once you pin a good few, we can start to see a pattern of what you like and it helps to start forming a look for you!

Think About Your Colors

Colors play a huge factor in designing and creating a bridal makeup look for you! If theres a certain pink shade, in your wedding bouquet, we like to match and pair it up with particular pink lip color. Or, perhaps bring our some additional wedding shades in the eye look. Make sure you communicate your wedding colors and bridesmaids dress colors to your artist so he or she can create something that will compliment these shades.

Share A Selfie

I always require a selfie and inspiration images, being sent to me before signing of contract, so that I can evaluate my brides face shape and be able to communicate to her my thoughts and ideas on the look and how that will translate on her with her facial features before evening stepping into the trial session or day of. Sometimes, we think a certain look would look great on us but if we have smaller or inset eyes, perhaps, another look could be more complimentary.

Overall, it is so important to hire the right makeup artist that can address all your concerns, as well as help you discover your dream look. A experienced makeup artist in bridal specifically can help you determine and discover all of this during the trial session or even before so your day of runs perfectly smooth and stress free! Best Bridal Makeup Looks of 2017

I cant even count the number of bridal makeup looks we did this year, so I compiled a list of my top  favorite looks of ours personally, as well as, some popular inspiration images shot by real photographers that hit the charts for 2017. The most popular bridal makeup trend we saw was more eye makeup and more lashes. I think instagram is seriously becoming an influence on how we value and want our bridal makeup to be for our special day. All eyes were on point!

bridal makeup

REAL BRIDE: With more done on the eyes were also seeing more lash. These are our custom mink lashes that give a nice open eye, and doll eyed effect! Loved this bridal makeup look on our bride Rachelle and we’ve been getting requests for this look ever since her October wedding!

  bridal makeup

REAL BRIDE AND INSPIRATION IMAGE: This stunner done by @jadeywadey180 hands down is for the bride who wants a bit of glamour on her wedding day. This bridal look is best with a lash extension application, followed by an extra strip on top for the extra lash length.

bridal makeup

REAL BRIDE: For more of a matte, clean bridal makeup look, my clients have been sending me this gorgeous girls face for the almost the last 6 months! A Spring bride, we focused on bringing out her feminine facial features and kept her look clean and simple with our matte airbrush foundation.

bridal makeup

INSPIRATION IMAGE: Soft, yet sexy bridal makeup, this is for the light, dreamy and airy feeling bride. The nude almost flesh toned lip color creates a very soft and dreamy feel. Most recommended on cooler skin tines, but can be be translated to warmer skin tones, with changing out a few eyeshadow colors.

bridal makeup

REAL BRIDE: For her romantic, Parisian inspired wedding theme, our bride wanted a classic bridal look with LOTS of lash. Lashes have become a huge part of wedding makeup, as more and more brides want to experiment with different sets of lashes to create different looks, moods and feel.

bridal makeup

INSPIRATION IMAGE: This is what most would call a natural look, but theres a lot of work still that goes into this look for it to appear natural. While this look is beautiful on most all skin tones, airbrush makeup is best with this type of look with a waterproof eyeliner pencil to eye enhancement.

REAL BRIDE: Jessica was one bride I could not forget! This bridal makeup look was personally customized to match her gorgeous wedding bouquet! While we chose to contour her eye lid, we opted for colors that helped set the stage for when she walked down the aisle. Gorgeous shot by the lovely Susie and Will Photography.

Hope some of these inspired you for your upcoming wedding! Got a favorite look? Post the look below so we can all share in on your inspiration!
